Re: [asterisk-biz] SIP DECT gateway?

Yep. It’s sad to say that wifi handsets just haven’t had the real R&D funds thrown at them the way the DECT technology/standard has/was.

I’m wondering if the fact that this technology was all developed in the late 90’s that  here we are some 11 years after DECT was first announced and wifi is still nowhere near as good.

Yes you need to run duplicate base stations –parallel probably with your wifi units but so wwhat – you wont have customers complaining at you that the system sucks.

The AP200S DECT Access Point (DAP) is a compact ,
easily installed, plug-and-play DECT Access Point that provides wireless telephony to IP networks.
The AP200S supports up to 11 simultaneous duplex calls per DECT Access Point
and simple installation allows the connection of up to 32 DECT Access Points

Got 5 of this beautys working with my Asterisk server, the configuration of the AP200S is very easy,
and the roaming capabilities of DECT handsets are unbeatable (compared with solutions with WiFi 802.11 phones)

Siemens do the S450 (SIP DECT base + handset). Pretty sure you can connect GAP compatible handsets to it (up to 5 IIRC).

That's the only SIP DECT device I've found.

It would be nice if you could set up a mesh network all going to a central auth server, or even a PCI card (that hasnt been discontinue :/ ).

If there are not drivers I would be willing to investigate writing drivers for such a card so if anyone knows of such a card.  Granted no drivers would be needed if it talks straight sip.
