I'm totally in love with Junction networks. I've had many good dealings
with them and they deliver exactly what they say they will. No hidden
fees or crappy support. Always get a human on the phone or via web chat.
Great outfit!

Re: [asterisk-biz] Elastix

I have been testing it for about a month, nice nice package. If your not
familiar with Asterisk and need help its not a good pick, there support
forums suck and no one wants to help those who are still learning. So
anyone new to Asterisk I would recommend trixbox over elastix. Another
one to watch would be nervittles.com new distro pbxinaflash. I installed
pbxinaflash at a client site yesterday and its running perfect.

[asterisk-biz] Elastix

Does anyone have any feedback on the Elastix version of asterisk found at
elastix.org?

There are a few interesting features (fax-to-email, etc) that make it
something I'm interested in looking at, but wondered if anyone else had
feedback.

Thanks,

[asterisk-biz] Nov 28, 2007 Asterisk Poll Results

The poll is still open here: http://food4wine.ning.com/poll

Here is a CSV file of the 99 answers.

http://voipusersconference.org/poll/

There is also an XML version, but it was created by Excel so I don't
know if it's worth dealing with:

http://voipusersconference.org/poll/results.xml

Because I screwed up (mea culpa, we're all human, or almost) there
were less answers now than before, but there is more info. I'll talk
about the results on the conference later today.

Conference today at Noon EST: http://voipusersconference.org

I'd like to try more of these short polls on focused topics like the
IAX question I asked. Your suggestions are welcome.

[asterisk-biz] CNAM for USA & Canada

List,

Further to my post a few days ago, it looks like Digital Conceptions
will be going ahead with it's introduction of a pre-paid CNAM lookup
service. There are two services that will be available which include
real CNAM data, and an alternative data source that provides best guess
Caller ID Name information for a fraction of the price.

After listening to feedback from several list members the pricing and
terms have been reworked to appeal to as many small businesses as
possible. I still encourage further feedback if you have any to offer.

This service will be live before the holidays.

http://www.digitalcon.ca/callerid/

Seasons greetings,
Trevor Peirce
Digital Conceptions Canada

P.S. It seems the list's spam filters are more forgiving when you post a
reply than a new topic. It's quite annoying as any new topics I post end
up vanishing unless I reword it several times until a copy finally shows up.

Re: [asterisk-biz] Year end special DID Offer.

Thank you Troy,
I appreciate you bringing this to our notice.

Unfortunately it got blind sighted. We will make sure we pay closer attention to this in future.

Thanks
-Jai

While looking for access numbers I saw 3 states spelled incorrectly.
Either that or we now have 53 states of the union, and I haven't been
paying attention. ;)

Spelling errors like those probably turn away potential clients.

[asterisk-announce] Asterisk 1.4.15 and 1.2.25 Released

The Asterisk.org development team has released Asterisk versions 1.4.15 and
1.2.25. These releases contain two fixes for security issues.

http://downloads.digium.com/pub/asa/AST-2007-025.pdf

* This is a SQL injection vulnerability in the res_config_pgsql module.
Default installations of Asterisk are not affected. However, any system using
the Postgres Realtime Engine may be remotely exploitable. This issue only
affects Asterisk 1.4, as this module was not in Asterisk 1.2.

http://downloads.digium.com/pub/asa/AST-2007-026.pdf

* This is another SQL injection vulnerability. The input for the ANI and DNIS
fields were not properly escaped. Default installations of Asterisk are not
vulnerable. However, systems that use the Postgres CDR logging module may be
remotely exploitable. This issue affects both Asterisk 1.2 and 1.4.

Both releases are available on http://downloads.digium.com.

Thank you very much for your support!

Kanishka,
You may want to consider the Druid Enterprise Communications Server
release 4 that is a full IP-PBX distribution based on Asterisk. Druid
ECS allows you to configure time based routing of all inbound calls
(zaptel, SIP, IAX) using intuitive interface to manage your conference
rooms. We support and configure Digium & Sangoma cards out of the box
with our TDM wizard.

Our asterisk based conferencing bridge application can be seen here.

Hi,

So the guys on asterisk-users "bullied" me into working on a survey
and correcting it. In order to amortize all the pain and suffering,
I'm posting it here too. If you'd care to, please fill this out, it
isn't too long:

http://winemailserver.com/survey/limesurvey/index.php?sid=94673

There is no sinister purpose or financial interest in this and as far
as I know, there's no id tokens or anything. I'll make the results
known when the "bullies" tell me to :)

all in fun

[asterisk-biz] Digium Appliance

We have a small customer going into a new office and they've already
installed 4 analog lines. They only need 6 IP Phones and are testing
some Snom 370 & 320's.

As this is a very small install we don't want to give them a full
system. We'd prefer to look at an Digium Appliance on this install and
are looking for a supplier of this device. That's right, we cant get
supply in Aust.

If anyone can get or has supply please forward pricing to us for a S844B
(Four FXS with Four FXO).

We will be testing the unit before install and if it doesn't behave as
it should we will build then customer a small PBX.

Thanks

Craig Lawrence

[asterisk-announce] Zaptel 1.2.22 and 1.4.7 released

The Asterisk.org development team has announced the release of Zaptel
versions 1.2.22 and 1.4.7. These releases contain (among other things)
many bug fixes to the TC400B driver, a bug fix on the wctdm24xxp driver
for users with a VPM150M, as well as numerous improvements and fixes to
the Xorcom driver suite. The much better performing version of fxotune
from 1.4 has now been put into 1.2, so you may wish to rerun this tool
with the new version. As always, please see the respective Changelogs
for additional information.

Both releases are available as a tarball as well as a patch against the
previous release. They are available for download from downloads.digium.com.

Thank you for your support!

Re: [asterisk-biz] Canadian Caller ID Name Service [Original Post]

Hello,

About a year ago my business announced it's Canadian VoIP 9-1-1 service
that allowed small providers and hobby users to have CRTC compliant
9-1-1 access. This turned out to be a success and has benefited many
Canadian providers who now share the costs and saved on the huge
implementation charges and otherwise unrealistic monthly minimums for
their subscriber base.

Again, around Christmas time I am looking for interest in another
service aimed at small providers. I'm in the process of gaining access
to the database where live Canadian Caller ID Name, or CNAM, information
is stored. Again, this is live -- it's not data based on a web site
scraping, phone book scans or other semi-accurate data sources. With
this service we will be able to reliably provide Caller ID Name for
incoming calls from both Canada and the US.

I would like to hear from you if you're interested. Pricing is still to
be determined and will depend on the amount of interest. Please contact
me directly at this address so I can get an idea of how many interested
parties. Unlike the 9-1-1 service, this service will be available to
all Canadian and American businesses.

Many thanks,

Trevor Peirce

[asterisk-biz] Canadian Caller ID Name Service

Hi List,

The spam filters seem to keep eating my posts. I'll try to post the
original as a reply to this if it makes it through.

Basically I'm looking for small VoIP providers who would like access to
live CNAM data for Canadian and US numbers. This is a live service, not
phone book scans, web site scraping, or other semi-accurate data sources.

Regards,
Trevor Peirce

Great! Appreciate it. I will have to find a US-based reseller.

A few questions:

- Do these work well with generic DECT phones? What phones are you using?
- Where did you place your order? ;) I'm not finding it on the web much.

Thanks! Nice to hear from someone who's actually doing this. ;)

My installation is in Europe, in the USA I think that the DECT standard uses other frequencies and handsets.

Handsets used:
- Nec-Philips
- Siemens (gigaset)

You register the handsets in the Asterisk with numbers (not names).

Steps:
- register all the handsets to the AP200S
- all numbers will be registered in the SIP proxy with the same passwords.

example of the SIP URIs generated at asterisk;
123@asterisk.blabla.com
124@asterisk.blabla.com
etc

The AP200S DECT Access Point (DAP) is a compact ,
easily installed, plug-and-play DECT Access Point that provides wireless telephony to IP networks.
The AP200S supports up to 11 simultaneous duplex calls per DECT Access Point
and simple installation allows the connection of up to 32 DECT Access Points

what is the method to provision users?  My ideal solution would have been a pci card where I have much more control over things like auth and all, ideally I would like to be able to place these in multiple locations and blanket an area with coverage, all with a central point for authentication and call control.

Got 5 of this beautys working with my Asterisk server, the configuration of the AP200S is very easy,
and the roaming capabilities of DECT handsets are unbeatable (compared with solutions with WiFi 802.11 phones)

What is the effective range?  Granted that takes into account a lot of variables, such as terrain, handsets, etc but in general what do you get per station?  The data sheets on that are always in perfect lab conditions, humidity just right, no outside rf noise, etc so while they are ok for guestimating real use is better.

Re: [asterisk-biz] SIP DECT gateway?

Yep. It’s sad to say that wifi handsets just haven’t had the real R&D funds thrown at them the way the DECT technology/standard has/was.

I’m wondering if the fact that this technology was all developed in the late 90’s that  here we are some 11 years after DECT was first announced and wifi is still nowhere near as good.

Yes you need to run duplicate base stations –parallel probably with your wifi units but so wwhat – you wont have customers complaining at you that the system sucks.

Siemens do the S450 (SIP DECT base + handset). Pretty sure you can connect GAP compatible handsets to it (up to 5 IIRC).

That's the only SIP DECT device I've found.

It would be nice if you could set up a mesh network all going to a central auth server, or even a PCI card (that hasnt been discontinue :/ ).

If there are not drivers I would be willing to investigate writing drivers for such a card so if anyone knows of such a card.  Granted no drivers would be needed if it talks straight sip.

Here's the install guide for their solution:
